 SPMS CHOIR FIELD TRIP
CSLB Campus and Music Department

On 10/27/22, Choir Director Reinman organized a field trip for the Advanced Middle School and High School Choir to tour the Cal State Long Beach campus and music department.  The tour was led by Dr. Palkki, the director of choral music education at CSULB.  Our South Pas choir groups participated in a masterclass with Dr. Palkki and met with university music students who joined them in vocal exercises. Our choir groups performed 2 songs (Cantate Domino and The Storm is Passing Over) and received positive feedback and coaching from Dr. Palkki and the university students.  They were impressed with our choir group’s performance.  A Q&A session was held where South Pas students could share their insights and feelings about being a student which was valuable to the university students who are teachers-in-training.  The day ended with a spellbinding performance by the University Choir, led by internationally-awarded conductor Dr. Talberg.  This field trip was special in so many ways – for our students to connect with university students, to receive college-level feedback and to be inspired by talented and highly trained musicians at CSULB.  We thank Reinman and CSULB for providing this opportunity where our students truly felt a soul-fulfilling connection through music.
