NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

MENTAL HEALTH WEEK (MHW)
PHOENIX RODMAN & JILL BRENEK, MHW CHAIRS

You may have heard your student talk about this past week’s lunchtime activities around Mental Health and Wellness themes of Nutrition, Sleep, Exercise, Mindfulness, and others. With an abundance of enthusiasm from parent volunteers and students alike, the week went wonderfully with plenty of opportunities for students to engage according to their own design with hands-on activities such as planting flowers, guessing sugar content of their favorite drinks, breathing through stressful situations, working out their bodies, learning about sleep hygiene, connecting through play, and much more. We also spread the word about the on-campus Wellness Center—a place for students to visit for extra support of all kinds—as well as about the national 988 crisis hotline which can be used by anyone any time. It was great to see our community come together around the broad topic of mental health and wellbeing!

Thank you to Phoenix Rodman & Jill Brenek for chairing this event and to all of the wonderful parent volunteers that donated time and items to make MHW possible. See more pictures below in the “PHOTOS” section of the newsletter. See video highlights @spms_pta

NOMINATING COMMITTEE NEEDED
BRIAN MAHLER, PTA PARLIAMENTARIAN

We Need a Nominating Committee!

Every PTA elects a Nominating Committee in the fall.  This committee is responsible for creating a slate of candidates for next year’s PTA Executive Board, which will be voted on at our General Association meeting in March 2024.  In terms of commitment, committee members have an introductory meeting and then start reaching out to current board members and other parents in the community to see who would be interested and a good fit on next year’s PTA Executive Board, before ultimately “nominating” a slate of candidates.  (These candidates may include those serving on the committee.)

We will be electing our Nominating Committee at the next General Association meeting in November.  Please email info@spmspta.org if you are interested.  Thank you!
