TYB/ESS PARENT WEBINARS
The SPMS Upstanders, a student peer mediation group, organized a week of activities for Stress Awareness Week and to help give students ideas and tools for managing stress during state testing. Activities included making stress balls, writing down worries and putting the paper through a shredder to “shred” stress, collaborative coloring, painting rocks and making bookmarks.
Special thanks to the Upstanders, SPUSD’s Train Your Brain counselor Natasha Stebbins and staff, and SPMS PTA parent volunteers for reminding students that managing stress can improve mental and physical well-being. See pics below in Campus Highlights (only visible in the emailed newsletter).

April is National Poetry Month! And the library has quite the selection on display for everyone to check out and read. From the “teenage angst ridden poetry” of The Pain Tree, to the creepy classics of Edgar Allen Poe, there is something for everybody!

The SPMS Advanced Choir, led by teacher Reinman, competed at the Verdugo Hills Scholarship Festival, taking home a $5,500 cash prize. The choir was graded against 9 criteria (e.g. tone, blend, diction, interpretation) and received an impressive score. They sang a new work composed by Sarah Quartel called Songbird and an a cappella arrangement of Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors. You can hear both these songs at the May 17th Choir spring concert.
