PUMA PTA NEWS

The Short Pump Middle School PTA would like to Welcome all Puma Parents for the 2014-15 School Year!!

Welcome to the 2014-15 school year!  We hope everyone had a pleasant and restful summer and are excited to return for a productive and fun school year!  Please join us in supporting the PTA this school year, by becoming a member.

As parents, as PTA volunteers, as teachers and as a community together at SPMS we strive to help our children grow and learn.  A high quality education is a necessity for our children to thrive as individuals, as they work to prepare themselves for a successful future.

The efforts of the SPMS PTA to support the education of our children is essential for our children’s success!  With our efforts we make a difference by providing materials and funding that enhances our children’s ability to learn and enjoy their school surroundings.

PTA Board President’s Welcome Message:

The PTA Board would like to welcome everyone back to school!  The faculty and staff have been busy getting everything ready for the first day of school.  6th Grade orientation was a huge success and we are looking forward to a busy Fee Day/Laptop Pickup Day on August 28th, as well as Back to School Night on September 9th.

We would like to encourage everyone to stop by the PTA tables on those two dates to join the PTA.  Part of our mission is to help create the absolute best learning environment for our children.  That includes hosting numerous hospitality events for our faculty and staff, organizing the many volunteer opportunities,  and selling spirit wear and managing the bookstore operations, coordinating meaningful programs for our students, and running the Reflections Program.  In addition, the PTA hosts student events including the 8th Grade Dance, the 7th Grade Social, and 6th Grade Orientation.  We also help keep our students organized by purchasing the Student Agendas which are provided to them each year.  Lastly your generous donations, through the Direct Donation Campaign, help to make tangible improvements to the campus each year.  Last year the funds helped the school purchase needed technology in the classroom.  In prior years they have been used to purchase a new scoreboard for the gym, new curtains for the auditorium, new monitors for the common areas and new turf for the playing fields.  While school budgets get trimmed each year, your membership and donations to the PTA help make some very meaningful enhancements to our school!

Our Direct Donation Program has been well received over the past few years.  Based on feedback from prior years, the giving levels have been enhanced to allow for Silver and Gold Level donations ($75-$100).  Car stickers will be available for these levels and the donor list will be published on the PTA website (SPMSPTA.org).  This year we hope to raise enough funds to cover our annual operating budget, make a meaningful donation to the school and fund the new Dr. Mark Chamberlain College Scholarship.

The Dr. Mark Chamberlain College Scholarship was started to recognize our past principal’s long and successful career working to educate and develop our children.  The PTA Board is currently seeking 2 new members that will help manage the scholarship process.  If you have an interest in serving on the PTA Board and would like to help coordinate the scholarship please send an email to spmspta@Hotmail.com, to the attention of Christi Elflein.

The PTA Board welcomes you back and looks forward to seeing you on campus soon!

Congratulations to all our artists who made the 2013-2014 Reflections Program a Success!

The students interpretations of the 2013-14 Reflections theme “Believe, Dream, Inspire” were fantastic and some of the submissions went on to win awards at the County level, and have even advanced to the District level of competition.  The PTA is proudly recognizing all participants of the program during the 6th, 7th and 8th grade award assemblies this month.  See more information on our student winners under the Reflections heading above.

It is not too early to begin thinking about your entry for this years program.  The 2014-2015 Reflections Theme is “The World Would Be A Better Place IF…”  More information will be posted once it has been received.
