Interested in Becoming an Active Member of the SPMS PTA?

The SPMS PTA is looking for parents who would be interested in serving on the PTA Board or its committees for the 2014-15 school year.  The Board offers a variety of ways to be involved from assisting with our Reflections Program, Book Store, and Hospitality Program to developing Programs for our students and parents, or keeping our Board aware of the County PTA or HCPS developments.

The PTA is looking to specifically fill the roles of :

2 Lay Advisory Committee Delegates:

These delegates will represent SPMS on the Henrico County Lay Advisory Committee and attend their monthly meetings.  The Henrico County Lay Advisory Committee is composed of parents and/or community members who represent the various schools within the County.  This committee advises the School Board on educational matters of general interest to the community.

2 Henrico County PTA Delegates:

The County PTA Delegates will represent SPMS at the Henrico County PTA level.  The delegates attend monthly meetings and functions of the Henrico County PTA and provide a summary to the SPMS PTA.

2-3 Spirit Wear/Book Store Committee Chair and Members

The Spirit Wear Committee designs, orders, and coordinates the sale of spirit wear items at SPMS.  It is a service the PTA provides to increase school spirit and raise funds for the PTA.  The Committee also helps coordinate the operations of the SPMS book store.

By teaming up with another parent, it allows our volunteers to split or share the work.  If you would like to become involved simply send us an email at spmspta.org and we will match you up with an area of interest!

Congratulations to all our artists who made the 2013-2014 Reflections Program a Success!

The Short Pump Middle School PTA has been busy working to promote the 2013-2014 Reflections Program.  The students interpretations of the theme “Believe, Dream, Inspire” were fantastic and some of the submissions went on to win awards at the County level, and have even advanced to the District level of competition.  The PTA is proudly recognizing all participants of the program during the 6th, 7th and 8th grade award assemblies this month.  See more information on our student winners under the Reflections heading above.

It is not too early to begin thinking about your entry for next years program.  The 2014-2015 Reflections Theme is “The World Would Be A Better Place IF…”  More information will be posted once it has been received.

Short Pump Middle School and Henrico County News:

As many of you have heard our SPMS Principal Dr. Chamberlain will be retiring at the end of this school year. The PTA looks forward to continuing our work together for the remainder of this year.  Also the PTA would like to thank him for all the guidance and support he has shown to our organization and we wish him the best in his future retirement endeavors!

The PTA would also like to congratulate Dr. Patrick Kinlaw on his appointment as the new superintendent for Henrico County Public Schools.

The HCPS will be implementing a 10-point grading scale in the 2014-15 school year.  You can access more information regarding frequently asked questions regarding this new scale at http://henrico.k12.va.us/instruction/GradingPractices.html.
